Dr. Keith E. Howard has served as Vice Provost since 2021. In addition to providing faculty insight, Dr. Howard manages special projects related to policy development and data review. A primary advisor to the Provost, he provides leadership in academic policy, faculty handbooks, catalogs, market data analysis, and academic resource allocation. As chair of the University Graduate Council, he provides oversight of the graduate and professional curriculums, non-credit continuing education, curricular policy review and implementation, academic assessment, and student grievances and appeals.

Dr. Howard began his academic career at Kenyon College, joined the Mercer faculty in 2005 as associate professor of mathematics, was promoted to professor in 2014, and served as assistant chair and chair of the department. In 2015 he was appointed interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and in 2016 was appointed dean of graduate studies.

A native of Macon and former Mercer University Upward Bound student, Dr. Howard earned B.S. and B.ChE. degrees from Morehouse College and Georgia Institute of Technology, respectively, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Howard is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi Scientific Society, Golden Key Honor Society, and Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society.

He is married to Danielle Howard, an alumna of Mercer’s Tift College of Education, and they have three children.
