Expanded Capacity to Achieve the University’s Mission

Nine University research institutes and centers — and many additional programs and centers throughout Mercer’s schools, colleges and units — were established as part of the campaign. From the School of Law’s Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism to the Tattnall Square Center for the Arts; from the Thomas C. and Ramona E. McDonald Center for America’s Founding Principles to the Reg Murphy Center for Collaborative Journalism; from the Spencer B. King Center for Southern Studies to the Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership, and many other programs and centers, our students are able to learn from different perspectives and are offered unique experiences that give them a competitive edge, set them up for success and help them approach the world with a deeper understanding.

Mercer On Mission is in many ways the beating heart of the University’s mission. It is the experience that intensely brings each and every aspect of Mercer’s mission to life. It is through this program that students and faculty can connect all the dots from their intellect and heart and turn these into action. The University’s international engagement expanded during the campaign with the establishment of the Sheridan Center, as well as new endowed and expendable scholarships for Mercer On Mission, that will allow even more students the opportunity to participate in Mercer On Mission and provide the necessary training for the experiences.

Mercer On Mission allowed me to explore chemistry and the medical sciences in innovative and engaging ways. Working alongside the devoted professors and students has only excited me more about pursuing medicine and working in a similarly captivating environment. I am so grateful for the donor support that has allowed me to participate in Mercer On Mission trips to Guyana and Cambodia.
