The Eric Eugene Garvin Memorial Scholarship

Eric Eugene Garvin

Eric Eugene Garvin earned a B.S. in political science from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2006. Eric was a member of the Theta Pi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He graduated from the University of Maryland Law School, where he showcased his excellent debating skills on the Moot Court team. Professionally, Eric was passionate about helping the underserved in his legal career in Baltimore and New York City. He delighted in creating and patenting an agency called PURE REUP that focused on entrepreneurship and education by encouraging young people to pursue their passions despite the impacts of racism, violence, poverty and other forms of social decay. Eric traveled to more than 40 countries and despite his premature death, lived a fulfilling and impactful life.

Eric’s family and friends established The Eric Eugene Garvin Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance for students enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Mercer who are pursuing a pre-law degree and have a demonstrated interest in studying abroad. It is the hope of Eric’s family and friends that the Garvin Scholarship will inspire future law students to expand their education by studying or working abroad while honoring Eric’s legacy of traveling abroad and helping disadvantaged people.
